In April of each year, Houston has an Art Car Parade that runs near the downtown area.
Lots of people turn out for it and it’s a lot of fun to see all of the creative cars pass by.
I try to make it when I can and get video and photos.
As always, the Art Car Parade didn’t disappoint. I hope you enjoy my article about it. So let’s get started.
The Houston Police Department always leads off the parade.
There are vehicles that are in the parade every year, like this one, and people love seeing them. I like this one with all of the greenery on it.
I don’t know what year it is, but this tow vehicle looks very old.
Here’s a view of the parade passing me by and you can see the downtown buildings.
I think it would be fun to go cruisin’ in this car. Especially down to Galveston on a Saturday in the summer.
This car is covered with seashells. I like it.
This car / plane was probably the most unique vehicle I saw all day. I would give it 1st prize.
What a cool idea.
I like the car / plane but this vehicle is my favorite.
I really like it a lot because it looks so cool.
I’d love to drive it.
The ‘Fruit Car’ makes an appearance in the parade every year and always looks good.
The Houston Mayor came riding by. Annise Parker looks good on the back of this beautiful car.
This vehicle looks like a scene from a lounge.
It even has a stripper pole.
I don’t know what this car is but it sure is covered.
I liked this old guy’s little vehicle.
The ‘Giant Shopping Cart’ is always a crowd pleaser.
I’d love to ride in it one year.
This little train was neat.
I don’t know what this guy is riding, but it looks cool and fun.
This guy came riding by on his ‘Spider Moped’. I loved it.
I really like seeing the cars with vivid colors on them.
Here’s a ‘Fish Van’.
It was towing a trailer with a live band in it. There’s always some live bands in the parade.
I really like the pink on this van.
The ‘Pirates’ came strolling by, getting the crowd fired up.
They were followed by their ‘Boat Truck’.
This old fire truck was nice looking.
It was towing this old man and an organ.
Here’s another car with a great paint job on it.
The ‘Big Mouth’ vehicle is in the parade every year and people love it.
So is the peacock car. The feathers go up and down.
A guy on stilts came walking down the street. He looked cool up there.
I love vehicles painted with the Zebra stripes.
It was towing a live band also.
There were three ‘Zebra’ vehicles in a row.
Here’s the third and my favorite. You’ll notice a lot of mini convertible sports cars are Art Cars.
Here’s the first of two ‘Toaster’ vehicles. Very neat.
I think this used to be a hearse.
They sure did paint it with lively colors.
I like it when vehicles are escorted down the street, like this one.
This van had CD’s all over it. I wonder how you wash some of these Art Cars.
This was a ‘Dragon Car’, I think.
I couldn’t tell you what this car is.
But it sure had a lot of stuff on it.
I thought this little car and cart were cute. I’d never own a car this small.
I like that this vehicle had ‘Gonzo’ from the Muppets on the front.
I wonder where these people find their inspiration for their paint jobs and decorations.
These guys were funny.
They were wearing ‘Presidents’ masks and having fun.
Here’s another little convertible sports car.
I like this paint job and they painted the rims also.
These girls were having fun riding on the top. I’d drive real slow because I wouldn’t want one to fall off.
The ‘Clock’ vehicle had many clocks stuck on it and some of them were chiming as it passed.
I wonder how long it takes these people to complete their jobs decorating and painting their vehicles.
This big thing was being towed down the street with a bunch of people on it.
The ‘Bird’s Nest’ car had moving wings and a person on top in the baby bird costume.
This truck looked cool I thought.
These next cars are really hot.
I love the green color.
I’d love to ride in a car when it was doing this. It’d be like a roller coaster, lol.
This purple was a nice color too.
Then some ‘Zombies’ were towed by.
This reminded me of the ‘Trojan Horse’.
They had a live band as well.
This vehicle was very creative. It’s a match box and they are all wearing red helmets like they are the matches.
The ‘Bumble Bee’ car looked great.
The ‘Roach Car’ is in the parade every year.
So is the ‘Rooster’ vehicle. The mouth moves.
I liked this ‘Spider’ car. They did a very good job with it.
Here’s another vehicle that just had a lot of stuff on it, but it looked good.
I liked this set up too.
The Expedition SUV had a very nice paint job on it.
Here’s one of those convertible sports cars I told you about.
This car had a ‘Mermaid’ painted on it.
This van had Mother Teresa and Princess Diana on it.
Here’s a better view.
This car had shamrocks all over it.
I think these little cars are cute, especially as an Art Car.
I really liked this paint job, so vivid.
This vehicle was towing people too.
And they were having fun waving to the crowd.
There were a lot of cars with nice colors on them this year, which is always good for the parade.
Here come the “Outhouse’. He always rides by with his pants down like he’s taking care of business in the outhouse, lol.
And yet another mini sports car passed by with a nice paint job on it.
This convertible was packed with people waving to the crowd.
It’s easier to wash the Art Cars with just paint jobs than it is to clean one with so many things stuck to it.
This guy had a mohawk helmet made out of paint brushes. Very artsy and cool.
This guy pulling his flags is in the parade every year.
And he sure does pull a lot of them. It looks very nice.
Here’s a female Captain America riding in this mini sports car.
This van looked cool.
This vehicle looked like fun to ride in.
It was a fork lift that was decorated with a dirigible.
This was a ‘Super Hero’ car and it looked very neat passing by.
I thought this was a cool little truck with its’ aggressive paint job.
You’ll see the “Spaceship Car’ every year too.
I never get tired of seeing all of the wild paint jobs. They’re all so creative.
This was a U.S.S. Enterprise car from the TV show Star Trek.
And it had some Trekkies escorting it down the road.
This guy was ‘Doc’ from the movie ‘Back to the Future’.
And the DeLorean was following him. It looked like a really good replica of the real thing.
I like vehicles that are painted like animals, like this one.
It was towing belly dancers, which is always nice.
Another vehicle came by pulling a trailer with a band on it.

And it was followed by a little Popcorn Machine.
This ‘Toaster’ vehicle was better than the first one because this one was towing butter, lol.
Here’s a truck that was, literally, covered in tennis balls.
The roller derby girls came passing by. They’re always fun to watch.
And the last vehicle was this guy bringing up the rear.
