On the weekend of July 22nd – 24th, I attended the Houston Horror Film Festival. I had a great time and captured some great cosplayers in all of their glory.
Horror Cosplay is a great genre of cosplay and I love photographing these events. Here are a few of those pics and a little write up about the festival.
The HHFF logo is awesome.

On Saturday, the line to get processed was long, but it moved fast and I had my wristband in a short time.
The rooms with celebrities, artists and vendors were full of attendees and everyone was having a great time.

There were several rooms at the Westchase Marriott that had booths set up and they were all interesting.

I ended up getting photos and autographs from 2 celebrities. More about that later.

You could buy yourself a great prop for your cosplay. These axes and sledgehammers were really cool.

This couple looked fantastic in their outfits. They were selling their daughters art while she was away studying opera.

At a Horror Con, you can always find a good selection of skulls.

These artistic skulls were very detailed and looked really good.

I photographed quite a lot of cosplayers at this event and everyone was happy to get their photo taken.

This young lady dressed up for a horror con for the first time and looked great.

I’ve photographed this guy at the HHFF event last Fall. His look is awesome and he has the walk to go with his character.

I met Porcelain Doll at this event and she had a very detailed face.

I asked her how long it took her to do her face. She said she’s done it before so it only takes her an hour. Getting it off takes a bit of effort.

I met a lot of clowns and they all looked very good.

This cosplayer works as the Torturess at Purgatory Scream Park, just outside of Houston in Kingwood.

Purgatory Scream Park had a nice display and several characters were on staff all weekend for pics and interviews.

I photographed Leatherface last year at the HHFF event also. He always looks good.

These next few pics are of some of the clowns I ran into at HHFF.

This guy was on the floor for a lot of the day posing for pics.

I’ve met this clown several times over the last year or so. Love the hat.

Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns.

Another great hat. The clowns that darken their eyes always look better.

This was a fun group of clowns.

This guy did an awesome job with his make-up.

Wearing a Camp Crystal Lake shirt was a great added touch.

A ghoulish rocker.

This young lady had a pink heart painted on the tip of her nose and looked very cute.

This booth was advertising a horror movie that they made. The creature on the right was their killer.

I ran into The Pumpkin Queen and definitely wanted a pic of her in her outfit.

A really good Pennywise.

The guy on the right had a great facial expression. I love that. It makes for a great photo.

HHFF had a backdrop that was great for photos. Pinhead looked really good.

A close-up of a really gruesome mask.

I photographed this young lady twice and she looked great both times.

This guy had one of my favorite faces.

Colored contact lens’ can complete a look and put it over the top.

I also witnessed Leatherface cutting a rug. There’s video of it on the photo site. Link at the end.

Freddy with Porcelain Doll. Another great pic.

In addition to a lot of clowns at HHFF, I saw several Michael Myers. I’ll let you be the judge as to who looked the best.

Although the masks are usually different, all Michael Myers wear blue coveralls.

And usually carry a knife.

These 3 were hanging out together so I snapped a pic.

This Michael was my favorite.

The artists at HHFF had some great booths and fantastic art.

These clay figurines were very detailed and really cool.

This artist gets bonus points for having a great hat.

Horror collectors were able to find all kinds of art to choose from.

This is a pic of the Purgatory crew in front of their set. It’s a scene from Stranger Things and lots of people got a photo while sitting on the couch. This was a great feature at HHFF and the Purgatory staff were really nice.

Here is their flyer.

I definitely wanted a pic on their set.

I saw several Jason Voorhies also.

Another Purgatory staff member.

One of the celebrities that I met was Ginger Lynn. She was an Adult Film Star and also was in some horror films. She was really nice.

She autographed a pic for me also.

The other celebrity that I got a pic with was Cathy Moriarty. She was nominated for an Oscar for her work in Raging Bull with Robert De Niro.

She also autographed a pic for me.

The Director from the movie Butchers Bluff snapped an action shot of me with their killer.

A nun that flashes the Rock n’ Roll sign. Very cool.

A fun group shot.

I ran into Gillman and his friend. They posed for a regular pic.

Then posed for a really funny one.

I’ll close out this blog post with an interview that I did with Shane from Purgatory Scream Park. Lots of good information.
I enjoyed my time at the Houston Horror Film Festival and I look forward to their next event.
If you get the chance to attend an HHFF event, you really should. It’s a lot of fun and you won’t be disappointed.
