Since Amsterdam has a lot of canals, there are also a lot of boats.
There’s 2,500 houseboats on the Amsterdam canals.
Some may be rented out for your stay in Amsterdam and there’s even a houseboat museum so you can see what it’s like to live on one.
The rentable houseboats offer a nice bed, t.v., wifi, a small refrigerator, a wonderful view of the water and some even offer a sauna.
There are several Boat Tour companies in Amsterdam and it’s a great way to experience the city.
There’s about 200 specialized boats that provide a variety of waterborne activities of almost every form of service and entertainment that’s offered on shore.
More than a quarter of the canal boats are electrically powered. The quiet ride makes it nicer for visitors to videotape the boat tour.
For the first time in the 100 year history of Amsterdam canal cruising, you can buy a ticket to tour some of the oldest canals.
Since these canals run through the Red Light District, there was some embarrassment about them.
‘Friendship’ cruise company broke the taboo by offering a luxurious ‘Champagne Cruise’ that departs from the dock of the Hotel Krasnapolsky.
One tour company offers a variety of services. You can sip champagne, eat a four course dinner, share a moment with your loved one or eat your favorite pizza as you cruise the canals.
There are also companies who offer private cruises for tours or dinner. These cruise boats can accommodate from 2 to 150 guests.
The tour boats have an audio system that narrates the tour in four different languages so everyone can understand what they are saying about the city.
Below you can see the three level bike garage located near the train station that accommodates 2,500 bicycles. The third level is on the bottom left of the garage.
