Recently, I was in L.A. so I decided to visit the Cannabis Cafe (real name). It started out being called Lowell’s Cafe but they changed to Cannabis Cafe shortly after. That was a good decision. Since they are the first to open that allows smoking inside their establishment, it’s only right that they have the best name. The alliteration is really good. It rolls off of the tongue.
The Cannabis Cafe has a menu of all of their weed offerings. You can pay as much as $25 for a joint or more in some cases. And if you bring your own to smoke there, they charge you a $30 tokage fee. Pretty pricey but it’s cool to be in a place and smoke with other likeminded individuals. Like Amsterdam in a way, but not really. Amsterdam is way cooler. I had a guy deliver some weed to me, at my hotel, the day before, so I had some to smoke already. And they did charge me a tokage fee.
The T-shirts were $25 each. I like their logo but it’s on the back of the shirt and not the front. And they don’t have a pocket logo on the front either. It’s just plain black. They need some work done on their shirts to make them cooler. Here is the back of the shirt.
I bought myself one and one for my two friends. That was $75. Then I had to pay a tokage fee and I bought one joint. When I got the bill, they had the option to tip at 20%, 22% and 25%, if I remember correctly. And they included the cost of the shirts in the amount to tip on. So there was $75 worth of T-shirts added that they asked me to tip on.
I went ahead and tipped 25% on the entire bill even though I didn’t agree with tipping on 3 shirts. The girl helping me at the bar was nice though so I didn’t mind.
Here is how your joint arrives.
And here it is for $29. Oh, and here’s another biggy. They don’t deal with change as in coins. So everything on your bill is rounded up in their favor. My joint cost $29 and some change but they billed me $30.
And on food and shirts you get a bill at the end, but when you order weed, you have to pay as soon as it arrives. I guess they don’t want you smoking up their inventory and walking on the check.
I was sitting at the bar because everywhere else you needed a reservation. And it was crowded on a Sunday. At one point, I went to the restroom and when I came back some girl had taken my stool and moved it away from all of my stuff on the bar and was sitting on it reading a book.
Who the hell comes to the Cannabis Cafe to read? And she knew someone was sitting there because I had my stuff all placed on the bar in front of me, including my 3 t-shirts. I was so pissed at her because it was Standing Room Only. She made some comment about was that my stool. She knew it was my stool.
I took the high road and said it was okay, even though I was steaming. So I stood there for a bit and smoked then decided to leave. If she had not taken my seat, I would have been able to spend an enjoyable afternoon in a cool place.
Since then, I’ve told myself that the next time someone takes my seat or infringes on me in any way, I’m going to speak up instead of being Mr. Nice Guy. As the saying goes, “Nice guys finish last.”
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my review of the Cannabis Cafe. If you go, bring your wallet but it might be worth it. Didn’t have any food but it looked really good. Bon appetit.
Be safe and have a Chill Day.
