In honor of the Daytona 500 today and to kick off the 2016 NASCAR racing season, I’m posting this poem.
NASCAR is a huge sport, one of the biggest around;
Seeing the race crowd, will astound.
The fans are rabid, for their favorite driver;
More popular than, a finals of Survivor.
Drivers sign autographs, by the droves;
Fans follow, wherever he roves.
Gordon’s got four championships, but Jimmie’s got seven;
If he gets to eight, he’ll be in heaven.
Earnhardt Sr. was the toughest, people always say;
I wish, he was here today.
Many drivers are rich, and claim a lot of fame;
Everybody knows Jeff Gordon, by his name.
There is no doubt, NASCAR is big in the South;
Smack talk a driver’s fan, get punched in the mouth.
Companies spend millions, to sponsor a car;
Sometimes, it doesn’t get far.
When interviewed, drivers say their sponsor’s name;
Driving for Extenze or Viagra, would be really lame.
Been to many races, seen all the big tracks;
Race fans wear all the logos, on their fronts and backs.
All around, Indy, Daytona and Charlotte;
A pit lizard, is a harlot.
Girls throw themselves at drivers, at every race;
Some sign on titties, and every other place.
Motorsports is good, for the economy;
We all drive, it’s our autonomy.
Go to a race, and yourself you’ll see;
It’s exciting, it’s not just me.
Fast as hell, they drive;
Some don’t make it, out alive.
Risk their lives, for our entertainment;
What a dangerous, arrangement.
NASCAR is great, and the drivers are fearless;
When it comes to driving, they’re peerless.
Get an autograph, and buy a hat;
Your friends will say, where’d you get that?
I love racing, it is the best;
Man and engine, a great test.
I’d like to be a racer, and drive really fast;
I’d probably end up, in a body cast.
You know you like it, you drive fast too;
Maybe you’re a fan, and just never knew.
Go to a race, it’ll change your mind;
You’ll become hooked, on speed of any kind.
I could go on, for many a part;
Gotta end, the race is about to start.
