There are many things to do in Paris. Taking a boat tour is one of them. My sister and I had already taken the bus tour and shot photos and video, so we decided to take the boat tour as well.
The boat takes you for a ride down the river Seine. In English the name Seine sounds like the word ‘Sane’. To pronounce Seine in French, it sounds like you’re saying “Sin”.
Finding a boat tour company is easy because there are many of them. You just walk up, pay your fee and hop on board.
This Duck and Dog were inseparable as they hung out near the boat dock. Cute but strange.
The boat we were on was clean and it wasn’t over-crowded so we could easily find two seats.
I just saw one Paris boat tour company online advertising tours for $22.26 USD.
While we were on our little trip down the Seine, we saw a lot of other tour boats.
The Seine is 482 miles long and very important to the city of Paris.
There are 37 bridges spanning the river Seine in Paris and dozens more outside the city.
After being burned at the stake, Joan of Arc’s ashes were thrown into the Seine.
Many people get confused about ‘The Left Bank’ and ‘The Right Bank’ in Paris. The Seine cuts right through Paris so it’s helpful to know which side you’re on to be able to find something.
It’s easily done. Face downstream, then the left bank is on your left and the right bank is on your right. If you can’t tell which way the water is flowing, I’ve heard of a trick. You can drop a potato chip into the water and watch which way it flows. If you don’t have any chips, look for some small debris in the water.
Here’s a good looking wooden boat. It’s a water taxi. There are floating restaurants, disco’s and cafe’s on the river Seine for those who can afford it.
Below is a nice size yacht. Many who have traveled to Paris have never heard of ‘Lover’s Bridge’ over the Seine. People would write the name of a loved one on a padlock, then lock it onto the bridge. As you would walk across a bridge, you’d see so many padlocks it would be hard to count them.
I read an online article from September 2014 that said the city was going to take down all the locks and put up thick, glass panels on the bridges so no one could ever attach another lock. I read that Parisians hated the practice and considered the locks ugly.
The boat below was the coolest looking one that we saw.
It’s a boat where you ride down the Seine while you’re being served dinner. Just by looking through the glass, it looks very nice in that boat.
My sister and I had a nice time on the boat tour. The next time we’ll try the dinner boat.
You can find over 25,000 photos and many videos on my website so give it a look.
