Some years ago, my sister got married in Italy, along the Italian Riviera. The Portofino / Santa Margherita Ligure area to be more specific. I had never been to Europe so I was excited to go.
I planned out my trip. I would fly into Paris, spend a few days then board a bullet train to Italy, go to the wedding then ride the train back to Paris to finish out my trip.
The photo below is of Santa Margherita Ligure. I rented a moped and rode up into the hills to get this picture. It’s a very scenic town.
When I arrived in Santa Margherita Ligure, I met up with Stevie, my roommate for the stay. He was the brother of my soon to be brother in law.
Stevie and I had fun together drinking at night. Stevie played in bands as the drummer and one night there was a band playing in the town center to a large crowd. They found out that Stevie was from Texas and that he played in a band so they invited him up on stage to play a few songs with the band.
They were playing Texas’ Blues, which was right up Stevie’s alley and he knew the songs.
This was one of the high points of the trip.
Santa Margherita is a beautiful town and has well known wines.
It’s hard not to take a good picture because everywhere is so scenic. I had a cheap camera back then and I still think the pictures came out okay.
Portofino is known as a resort for the rich and famous. It’s a fishing village with a harbour.
The other members of the wedding party stayed at the Splendido Mare Hotel, up over Portofino. This is the pool and the great view.
Portofino is the subject of many paintings because of all of the color on the buildings.
It was founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf.
I saw some painters on the beach working on some projects while I was there. They had their easels set up and were painting away.
The boats in the water were nice to look at and look good in the pictures.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay along the Italian Riviera and would go back again.
On my sister’s big day, the weather was perfect and everything went off without a hitch. The reception was great fun and everybody enjoyed themselves.
I hope you enjoyed this short look at Italy. I have 25,000 photos of my travels on my website and some great videos as well.
Until next time, be safe and have a chill day.
